Meet Vanessa, Our QC Supervisor

Tell us about your background. How did you start your career in Quality Assurance?

I have 15 years of experience working in the food and beverage industry. My career began when I started working as a medical assistant during my younger years. However, I soon realized I was more interested and invested in working as a quality inspector.

How do QC practices here differ from other places you've worked?

Harris has a strict adherence to standards, and you can see everyone involved throughout the whole chain to deliver good quality products. It's clear that every step of the process is focused on maintaining high standards to ensure great quality in the end.

Can you share an example of a QC challenge that provided an unexpected opportunity?

One of the most challenging aspects is getting the team to see eye to eye on decisions that benefit the company rather than just ourselves. The opportunity lies in explaining to the team how small details can make a big impact if not done carefully and properly, and my job opens up chances for me to learn and to teach others.

Why is food safety important, in your opinion?

Food safety is important because it makes sure food is always available for consumption and is safe by applying scientific knowledge and the latest innovations. Simply put, in order to ensure quality and abundance in our food supply, food safety is key.

What's one QC success story you're particularly proud of?

I'm proud of being part of the team that, a couple of years ago, worked hard and long shifts to create and train a second-shift team.
